Kate Barmotina, Viola

Kate Barmotina is a Ukrainian-born and Brooklyn-based violist and educator. As a chamber musician, Kate is a founding member of the PARK Quartet; an ensemble dedicated to playing works by composers living and dead currently in residence at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. She recently joined Femmelody, an all female feminist chamber music collective dedicated to the performance of works written exclusively by women. A lover of new music, she has been part of the world premiere of John Luther Adams’ Sila: The Breath of the World and was part of the new music collaboration project Mix Nouveau for three years. A collaborative violist dedicated to expanding the viola repertoire, she has worked intensely with the Arch Contemporary Ballet Company, and collaborated with composers such as Derek Holden, David Cieri, Oliver Hickman, Daniel Hammerlein, Andrew Weiss, Leah Sayad and Minwhee Lee. Kate earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education at NYU.
