Victor Caccese has a passion for percussion chamber music and is a founding member of the stunning Brooklyn-based percussion quartet, Sandbox Percussion. Victor graduated with his masters degree from the Yale School of Music in 2013. During his time at Yale, he discovered his love for education having coached the Yale Band Percussion Group and giving private percussion lessons to Yale University students.

Victor is active in the discovery of new works for percussion through experimentation and collaboration with composers and other performers. This fall, with Sandbox Percussion, he will premiere two brand new works by composers Alex Weiser, and Thomas Kotcheff at The DiMenna Center in Manhattan. Last season, Sandbox gave a TEDx talk in Brooklyn with the composer collective Blind Ear Music that showcased a computer program that enables a composer to compose music for live performers in real-time. In 2013 through a collaboration with the Yale School of Drama, Sandbox premiered composer/sound designer Palmer Hefferan’s effervescent multimedia piece, Forming the Year’s First Sky – a multi-movement work that combines intricate movement and lighting with music in a live concert setting.

Active in today’s new music scene, Victor has appeared at the Norfolk New Music Workshop in 2011 and 2012 both as an individual and member of Sandbox. Over the course of these two summers, he assisted in 18 world premieres from a selective group of 12 young composers from all over the world. In addition he also performed works by Martin Bresnick and James Wood, including Mr. Wood’s percussion solo masterpiece, Rogosanti which in a performance that composer praised as “beautiful with a very nice pacing and fabulous interpretation”.

In the summer of 2012, as a member of Sandbox Percussion, Victor was a finalist in The New England Chamber Music Competition, an international competition open to all genres of music and instrumentation. Together with The Peabody Percussion Group, Victor was a finalist in the Percussive ArtsSociety International Convention competition in 2012 where he performed James Wood’s Village Burial with Fire.
